I’m really interested in finding out what effect Marvellous Spelling is having in the classroom. I’d also like to build a network and community of people who are using Marvellous Spelling, so that we can swap notes, new ideas, knowledge and information across the learning community.
If you would like to join the Marvellous Spelling Research Project, or if you just want to measure the impact of using Marvellous Spelling with your learners, I suggest the following steps:
- Before using Marvellous Spelling test your students’ spelling and reading ages to find a baseline
- Teach Marvellous Spelling on three separate occasions using four or five different words each time
- You can also incorporate Marvellous Spelling into your normal teaching to introduce any new vocabulary
- After a month, test your students again using the same reading and spelling tests you used the first time
You may want to spend about 20 minutes teaching Marvellous Spelling the first time. You’ll probably need less time as your students get used to it. It will soon become an automatic way to learn new spellings.
